NZ Maori Hockey (Te Haupoi Maori o Aotearoa) was formally established in 1992 with the first ever National Maori Tournament hosted by Takitimu in Napier over Labour weekend. Since then, the tournament has gone from strength to strength as Maori participation in hockey continues to grow year on year.
The aim of NZ Maori hockey is to provide Maori players with the opportunity to excel and develop their potential within our sport. The environment Maori Hockey offers our players is unique where all aspects of Maoritanga is encouraged (whanaungatanga, tikanga, te reo, te ao maori).
